Discover Pigna, a medieval village in the upper Val Nervia, an ancient commercial crossroads at the foot of the majestic Monte Toraggio and the Parco delle Alpi Liguri. The visit begins at the ancient Loggia, then continues to the Church of San Michele, where visitors can admire the magnificent Canavesio Polyptych from the 1500s, the stunning marble rose window, and unique artistic details.
In Pigna, the narrow alleys are known as “chibi” and through a maze of shadowy houses, they lead us down to the provincial road or to Piazza Colla, from where you can admire the historic rival village of Castel Vittorio and enjoy an incredible view of the Alps, yet less than 20 km from the sea. The white beans of Pigna, a Slow Food recognized specialty, are an absolute must-try.
For a taste of an even more rustic Liguria, you can visit the hamlet of Buggio, a true outpost, famous for its gran pistau. You can’t leave Pigna without experiencing a rejuvenating soak in its sulfurous thermal waters, used for centuries for their therapeutic properties.
